Building Trades Program

This course is designed to prepare students for careers in the building construction trades. Students will gain insight and hands-on experience with new home projects. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in the different phases of residential construction. Planned learning activities will allow students to become knowledgeable of fundamental principles and methods to develop technical skills related to building codes, blueprint reading, concrete and carpentry work. Instruction includes safety principles and practices, foundation layout methods, building concepts and cost estimating. Technical skill experiences will include carpentry, plumbing, roofing, siding, dry walling, finish work, insulation, electrical and heating installation, window and door installation, painting, and all the details involved in completing a new home.

Service Learning for Building Trades Students

Students have been working inside the past few weeks assisting the Galesburg Rescue Mission install a fire wall. 



The Building Trades class is excited to get started this year as they will partner with Knox County Habitat for Humanity to work on local projects.  Check back often to find updated photos and projects the students have started. 

The Building Trades class has recently partnered with Knox County Habitat for Humanity to work on  project #48.  Students are learning firsthand how to frame, hang drywall, hanging trusses, landscaping, installing flooring and even getting the siding up.
