Trooper Wilson Visits

4/30/2014

Picture
Trooper Jason Wilson of the Illinois State Police visited the Law Enforcement class and brought a ISP Golf Cart and set up an obstacle course in the GHS parking lot where my students wore drunk goggles and had to maneuver through cones.  These drunk goggles were registered at a alcohol concentration of 0.16.  This is
well above the legal limit of .08 in IL.  This course of instruction was to simulate the effects of driving under the influence of alcohol.  It was very difficult to get through the course without striking some cones.  Some of my students could not believe how just a little bit of blurred vision affected their ability to drive.  This was a very informative exercise.

Jason Payne from Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Tulsa Oklahoma  gave a presentation the GAVC Automotive I, students and Mr. Miller’s Transportation class regarding the aviation and electronics fields. His presentation focused on Spartan’s aviation programs and careers in the industry. His message was the importance of furthering your education after high school no matter where you chose but to go to college knowing why and what your there for and not to just go. He emphasized the reason people don’t succeed is because of their plan to fail they failed to plan His power point provided statics put out by our federal government that showed staggering percentages of college student drop outs because they went to college for all the wrong reasons or they went without a plan. His presentation was very enthusiastic and well received by all!
