
![]() The Galesburg Area Vocational Center is proud to announce Colton Mason as the December Student of the Month. Colton is a senior at Knoxville High School, and is currently enrolled in the Health Occupation program.
The GAVC will follow a 2 hour ealry dismissal schedule on Wednesday December 21. Winter break begins on Thursday, December 22, and classes resume on Tuesday, January 3, 2017. Have a great break, see you in January!

The Culinary Occupation class will begin their internship right after returning from holiday break. Students will intern at local restaurants and take their first real steps toward a promising restaurant and foodservice career. Experience gained in local restaurants will help the students figure out their future endeavors and possibly create networking opportunities.
Health Occupation students have completed the clinical hours required by Illinois Department of Public Health. Students worked with the residents by providing care, communicating, and making the residents day just a little brighter. The students in all three blocks have showed their competency in giving a shower, dressing and undressing, providing a partial bath and performing perineal care, complete range of motion exercises, shave a resident, nail care, oral care, transfer a resident using a gait belt, position a resident on his or her side, and feed. The students have also been able to apply other skills learned in the classroom during clinical.
GAVC Engineering Design students were visited by Don Whitehead and Dave Anderson from Pegasus Manufacturing. They talked about how important the skills and information the students are learning to enter the manufacturing field. Students has been working about getting the new maker lab ready for next term.
![]() The Law Enforcement class has been busy during the past couple of weeks. Investigators Legate of the Galesburg Police Department recently visited the classroom to show a power point demonstrate regarding the effects drugs have on the body and just how dangerous these drugs can be The building trades students continue to work on house # 50. The trusses have been set and the roofing has begun. |
