![]() Law Enforcement students are getting ready to go on there first Field Trip to the Galesburg Police Department. They will be observing the facilities: holding cells, interview rooms, 911 center, along with patrol vehicles, and the vehicle used in emergency response situations.. The students will have the opportunity to listen to Swat officers speak about their experiences and the equipment used in crisis response situations. Students are also learning about the phonetic alphabet and Galesburg Emergency Signal Codes. We have started blocks of instructions on handcuffing techniques, and started using the squad car in conducting mock traffic stops. ![]() The GAVC Engineering students have started their service project "Make the World Better". Disabled children can require complex and expensive equipment, often complicated by the need to meet the child’s individual requirements. GAVC students will be researching students with special needs, looking for ways to use 3d printing to enhance their daily lives. Once a product is selected students will design and create a product using the 3d printer. ![]() The Culinary Occupation class is off to a great start this year! We have started the year with what it takes to be a culinary professional. Mrs. Barrett have introduced the importance of safety and sanitation. The students have worked diligently to organize, clean and sanitize the kitchens. This was quite a learning experience for them to understand the importance of a clean kitchen. Our plans for the future include a chili cook-off, resale projects, with the first being a cookie sale for Halloween. ![]() The Early Childhood Education classroom, students are learning about the different careers related to Childcare and Education. Students are also learning about the different programs that are offered to parents of preschool children. These students are gaining knowledge in the characteristics of a successful teacher, how to talk and play with children, dressing for success in this field and making a good first impression with their supervising teachers. They went to their first work experience at Bright Futures and Galesburg Schools Day Care Center this past week. They are looking forward to returning back to their job sites to observe children in the school setting.. ![]() The Building Trades class has been working hard in the classroom so far this year. They have already covered framing and are using those skills in the classroom to help the Habitat for Humanity by building the storage shed for House #50. The class is hoping to be involved with building the foundation for House #50 as soon as October. The Students are also working towards their OSHA 10 Hour Safety Cards which will get them closer to being career ready when finished with the class. Comments are closed.
