CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT

Childhood Development is a group of courses that set students
on the path to child development or teaching.

Early Childhood Education I

This course is especially valuable to those planning careers in elementary education, childcare, early childhood education. Students will gain work experience with children in a laboratory setting. Educational experience includes participation as teachers and teacher assistants in Childcare Centers, Pre-K classrooms, and Elementary schools. This work experience will supplement the classroom coursework.

Early Childhood Education II

This course will allow highly motivated students to develop leadership skills and responsibilities at the Early Childhood and Elementary Education level.  Students under the supervision of a Certified Staff member will create and present lesson plans, keep journals, complete timecards and write in a daily job-log.  Students will focus more on the lead teacher responsibilities and duties.  This course is recommended for students considering a career in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education or Childcare.  All applicants must go through a screening process with the GAVC Instructor before being accepted into the program.

Intro to Teaching

Intro to Teaching introduces students to the foundations of what being a teacher is all about.  Using the Educator's Rising platform, students will gain an understanding about the character, responsibilities, and rewards of teaching.  Students will participate in experiential learning by observing and helping in their district classrooms after completing the first term of coursework.  Course content also includes projects to develop skills essential to entering into the teaching profession, team-based challenges, and exposure to other options in the education pathway.
